APPS FOR AFRICA!
Do you have a suggestion on how mobile technology can support livelihood in rural Africa?
Perhaps you have an idea for an application that can help your business grow.
The good news is that you have until January 31st, 2012 to submit your idea.

Who can Join the Competition
The competition is open to both students and small & medium sized enterprises (< 100 employees) within Western Africa: Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Gambia.

There are two categories: one for students and one for companies.

How to Join the Competition
1. Register a user account. (One per team member)
2. Register your team (Click "Team sign-up" and fill out the form).  Please note: the team will be available after approval.
3. Submit an application and a demo-video (< 3 min) (Click “Create Project Submission” and fill out the form and upload your app)

Theme
The purpose of the theme "Apps for the Networked Society" is to promote innovations from a variety of environments, places and situations etc., as well as by connecting people, things and places to empower individuals and society. The Network Society is an Ericsson vision targeting a combination of mobility, broadband, the cloud, applications and services for an empowered society.

Requirements
Develop an application based on the Android platform (Web or Native) that addresses the theme and makes use of at least one Ericsson Labs API (e.g. Mobile Location, Text-to-Speech, etc.).

Prizes
Members of the winning team will each receive a Sony Ericsson Xperia phone, while teams in second place will receive Business Experience Packs (incl. Sony Ericsson MW600, office pro, McAfee, and a micro USB cable).

Evaluation
The submitted applications will be evaluated by Ericsson according to the following criteria:
- Application based on at least one Ericsson Labs API
- Addresses the theme "Apps for the Networked Society"
- Working application prototype
- Innovative solution
- Business potential

Jury
The Africa - West jury consists of representatives from Ericsson, Sony Ericsson and Google.

Deadlines
January 31, 2012 – Final date for application submission to local competition
February 28, 2012 – Final date for application submission to main competition
