Introducing beaconnow.com

BeaconNow.com is social networking like application (dubbed as discovery networking website by the authors). Over the past few months there has been a lot of interest in social networking features which let you connect with people and things which you would not usually connect with (Chat Roulette being the prime example) Also in the past few months a lot of social networking sites have sprung up focusing on location based social data (4square being prime example in this case). The idea behind BeaconNow is that some times you have to do things which are sensitive to time and place and there is no easy way of doing it. Example of these include sharing a taxi ride. It is not too meaningful to post an Ad on a site such as Craigslist if you are waiting for a taxi to show up and plan to leave in the next 10 mins and would like to share the taxi. If only there was a solution which would help you post your advertisement (or shout) without you bothering to post your location data and taking care of every thing like a littile genie.

We at beacon now have come up with a web based solution which involves Erriscons's mobile identification API as well as Active Location APi. This solution lets you post and search for Ads (what we would like to call beacons). This is a rather niche facility but we think that bigger social networks like FaceBook , Twitter etc could make use of such a functionality in their own eco systems.
